Play Zone to open in former sorting office this weekend

A long-awaited play centre built inside a Kent sorting office will open this weekend.

Bosses at Play Zone in Herne Bay have kitted out the building out after acquiring the ex-Royal Mail site from Stour Side Investments in 2014.

The centre, which will feature six slides, opens on Saturday (May 21).

Acting manager Andrei Shchedrov said: “We have got all of our major permissions and are just getting a few bits and pieces done before we open.

“We have complied to all the regulation given us and have made sure everything is top-spec and done to the highest standard.

“There was quite a lot to do as we started from scratch and had to get the builders in – we have been cracking on with it.”

Mr Shchedrov, who is currently in charge while his wife Jenia is on maternity leave, said the centre will cater for birthday parties.

The 32-year-old, who lives in Canterbury, added: “We have got a very big soft play area and I am pretty sure it is the largest one in this part of the county.

“There will be party rooms and eventually we are looking to do other classes like arts and crafts.

“We are hiring people and have found some who we like so it looks like everything all ready to start.”

The play area will open from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday.

He added: “While we have been working on the centre, we have had people constantly asking when we are opening and people have been really looking forward to it.

“Our location means it is really easy to get to from other towns like Whitstable.

“There is a very large car park."
