Things to do this weekend in Kent - February 23 and February 24
It's the final weekend before the kids head back to school and there's lots happening in Kent.
From animal handling sessions to family fun days there's plenty to keep everyone busy.

Explorer Trail, Penshurst Place and Gardens near Tonbridge

Do your little ones dream of being grand explorers? 2019 marks 500 years since accomplished Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan begun his voyage to the East Indies, this journey would go on to become the first of its kind to circumnavigate the globe! Head to Penshurst Place to see if you can spot the expedition equipment hidden in the gardens as you learn more about some of history's most fascinating discovery facts. Meet River's Rodents and Reptiles, Pentagon Centre, Chatham
Saturday, February 23
Meet a lizard, snake, tortoise and rodents at animal handling sessions on Saturday. The cost is £3.50 per child, £4 for children on the day and is not suitable for youngsters under three.
Children will be able to touch, stroke or hold the animals with the assistance of River and there will be fun facts to learn about each creature. Each participant will receive an animal sticker, colouring sheet and a personalised bravery certificate. Each handling sessions lasts for one hour and will begin 5 minutes after the start time, so please arrive promptly. To learn more or for times of Saturday's sessions click here.
Family Activity Day, Tunstall Village Hall
Sunday, February 24
Enjoy art, take part in messy play, tackle the ball pit, inflatable football games and bouncy castle slide at this charity event in Sittingbourne. There will also be food and refreshments, face painting and games as part of the activity day for families. Admission is £5 per child over one. The event takes place from 1pm to 4pm. Orchard Theatre family day, Dartford
Sunday, February 24
An day of workshops for all the family is taking place this Sunday at the theatre. Running from 11am until 3pm the event is most suitable for children aged three to 10 but all are welcome to join.
The day includes arts and crafts, theatre games and dancing, fancy dress, costumes, storytime, character appearances, face painting and more. There is a family offer of four tickets for £25 and booking is advisable. To learn more click here.
Snowdrop Wood opening, Charlton Park, Canterbury
Sunday, February 24
The Snowdrop Wood at Charlton Park will open to visitors again this year on Sunday, from 10am until 2pm. Suitable for walkers of all ages and dogs on leads, visitors will be able to enjoy the mass of 200 year old double snowdrops planted in the wood next to Charlton Place manor house.
Coffee or tea and biscuits will be available in the Drawing Room, and walkers are asked to make a minimum donation of £2.50 towards the upkeep of Bishopsbourne’s church. For more details click here.
Kent and East Sussex Railway, Tenterden
Saturday, February 23 and Sunday February 24
Steam along through the Kent and East Sussex countryside from Tenterden to Bodiam. Train tickets are valid for travel on any train on the day of issue, but be sure to look after your ticket - as it's valid for a free repeat visit later in 2019.
At Tenterden Town station refreshment rooms will be open 10am until 4.30pm selling cooked breakfast, hot and cold lunches, drinks and snacks. Adult all day travelcards are £18 and £12 for children aged three to 15. To learn more click here.
