The first weekend in May brings an annual invasion of more than a thousand Morris dancers to Medway.

Rochester Sweeps Festival is where folk music, ceilidhs and a historic urban tradition come together for three days of revelry. The event celebrates the 19th century sweeps annual holiday - the one time of the year they could leave the soot behind and have some fun.

This ever popular festival has established itself as one of the biggest weekends in the county's calendar and attracts thousands of people every year from all parts of the UK.

Alongside the morris dancing will be music on the open-air stages, folk art stalls, an artisan produce fair and lots of family activities.
