Heart of Kent Hospice in Aylesford encourages families to join Elmer Day 2020 as Elmer's Big Heart of Kent Parade is postponed

Brighten up your weekend by joining Elmer Day in Kent.

Despite this year's Elmer art trail being postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak, those behind bringing the sculpture trail to Maidstone are inviting families to take part in a day of Elmer themed activities on Saturday (May 23).

Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade would have seen 40 giant elephants based on the book character, dotted around the county town for families to find.

The event, which will be raising money much-needed funds for the Heart of Kent Hospice in Aylesford, will come to Kent next summer instead.

Elmer Day, which celebrates the patchwork elephant nationwide, this year comes with an entire activity pack of things to do all with lockdown and social distancing in mind.

Families can get creative with guides to making rainbows, jungle collages or milk bottle Elmer elephants whilst there is also a sing-a-long to watch called Be a Rainbow from the Elmer theatre show.

Fans of the Elmer books may wish to watch author David McKee reading an original Elmer story whilst everyone is encouraged to don their brightest most colourful clothes in the name of positivity.
