National Trust events in Kent taking place this May half term 2019
Spring flowers are in full bloom, there's the promise of warmer weather on the horizon and a bank holiday too!
The May half term break is often a firm favourite with families as the opportunities to get outside grow.
The National Trust describes this time of year as the 'ideal time' to explore and try new things, so we've rounded up some of their favourite May activities organised especially for the school break:
Exotic Animal trail, Chartwell, Westerham
Saturday, May 25 until Sunday, June 2
Discover Sir Winston Churchill's favourite exotic creatures on this fun family trail. Animal characters from London Zoo and all around the world are hidden throughout the garden. Some of them roar, some of them climb, others fly, two of them swim and one of them even hops!
You can join the trail between 10am and 4pm and costs £1 each. Normal admission charges to Chartwell also apply.
Bird trail, Emmetts Garden, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks
Saturday, May 25 until Sunday, June 2
Find out about bird life and complete activities on the May half-term trail through the gardens anytime between 10am and 4pm.
Normal admission charges to Emmetts Garden apply and the cost of the trail is £1 for each trail sheet.
Fox and Rooster trail, Ightam Mote
Saturday, May 25 until Sunday, June 2
Grab your compass and explore the gardens at Ightam Mote on a Fox and Rooster Trail.
Tick off number 45 of your 50 things as you discover how to find your way around with a map. It costs £2.50 to join the trail and normal admission prices also apply. And don't forget to take a paddle in the stream or visit the children's natural play area as part of your visit!
Three Little Pig Trails, Smallhythe Place near Tenterden
Wednesday, May 29
Join Garlic Theatre as they entertain the whole family with beautifully crafted puppets, music and a French twist to a traditional tale.
This brand new version of the classic story of the Three Little Pigs is set in Paris where a grumpy old wolf is a chef that wants a special ingredient for his soup. Bring your little ones along to enjoy this interactive performance with plenty of laughter and live music which takes place from 1pm. Tickets are £8. Learn more here.
Animal Craft, Ightam Mote,
Thursday, May 30
Visit Ightam Mote on Thursday and make your own funky foam fridge magnet animal to take home with you. It costs £2 per child to take part and all materials are included.
May half term family fun, Scotney Castle
Saturday, May 25 until Sunday, June 2
Come along to Scotney Castle between 10am and 5pm and join The Children of Scotney half term trail. You can also tick more things from your 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 ¾ National Trust list learn how to identify trees with the help of estate guides.
The trail costs £2. Normal admission charges also apply.
Macbeth and King Lear, Smallhythe Place near Tenterden
Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1
An ideal treat for the older kids this half-term - is a choice of two Shakespeare classic tragedies brought to life on stage by East 15 Acting School.
Led by a professional director, the actors use their individual and collaborative company skills to present a thrilling and original production described as 'Shakespeare with a fresh mind'. Tickets are £12 for adults and £10 for students/children. Learn more here.
