Open Farm Sunday: farms open in Kent on Sunday, June 10
Farms across the county will be throwing open their gates to families on Sunday, June 10 as part of this year's Open Farm Sunday.
Open Farm Sunday is the farming industry's national open day and fun on the farm is guaranteed!
The event allows visitors to discover the world of farming, find out about the story behind the food grown and how farming affects everyone's everyday lives.
And not content with just opening their gates to the public, farmers and their teams go to great lengths to best showcase the work that they do.
Events on Open Farm Sunday include talks and displays, a chance to meet the animals down on the farm, tractor and trailer rides, sheep shearing, demonstrations, farmers markets, refreshments, arts, crafts and facepainting.
Below are some of the farms in Kent welcoming families on Sunday, June 10:
Wenderton Farm
Address: Wenderton Lane, , Wingham, , Canterbury, Kent, CT3 1EL
Come and explore the wonderful world of fruit farming! There will be machinery displays, farm tours and tractor and trailer rides available from 11am until 3pm.
Wenderton Farm is owned and managed by Adrian Scripps Ltd growing apples and pears for UK supermarkets, as well as blackcurrants for Ribena.
Goodnestone Park Farm
Address: The Street, Goodnestone, Nr Canterbury, CT3 1PL
Tractor rides, sheep shearing, guided farm tours, self guided farm tours, machinery demonstration and beekeeping demonstrations.
Entry to the farm is free but a donation to charity is requested.
Honeychild Manor Farm
Address: St Mary in the Marsh, , Romney Marsh, Kent, TN29 0DB
There is free entry to a fun afternoon on the dairy farm. There will be machinery displays, milking tours, a chance to see and meet the cows, farmers market, local produce and face painting.
Appledore Turkeys
Address: Priory Farm, Appledore, , Ashford, Kent, TN26 2DR
Visit Appledore Turkeys where you will be able to see young baby turkeys that are less than a week old, see large scale farming machinery, enjoy trailer rides, together with a free barbecue and soft drinks.
All donations will be given to Cancer Research
Bardsley Farms
Address: Bluehouse Farm, , Maidstone Road, , Marden, Kent, TN12 9AG
The farm grows apples, pears, plums and apricots. During the day you will be able to enjoy trailer rides, static machinery displays, meet the pigs that live on the farm and learn more about bee keeping.
Mote Farm
Address: Mote Road, , Ivy Hatch, , Sevenoaks, Kent, TN15 0NT
Mote Farm is a family run farm which forms part of the Ightam Mote Estate owned by The National Trust. It is an arable farm with a small suckler herd. There will be machinery demonstrations, livestock to see, tractor and trailor rides, produce stalls and games.
A £1 donation to charity is requested as an entrance fee.
Brockhill Farm
Address: Brockhill Park Performing Arts College, , Sandling Road, , Saltwood, , Hythe, Kent, CT21 4HL
Brockhill Farm has sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens and small animals and serves the school curriculum of Brockhill Park Performing Arts College. There is also a small farm shop.
Between 1pm and 4pm will be sheep shearing demonstrations, a chance to meet the farm animals, a cuddle corner, cake sales, fete games, a raffle and the farm shop will be open.
Entry is free but small charges will apply to some of the event attractions on the day such as the fete games.
Solley's Ice Cream Parlour
Address: The Dairy, Ripple, Nr Deal, Kent, CT14 8JL
This rural farm in East Kent has diversified into making real Dairy Ice Cream, the farm has an ice cream parlour, ducks and hens, arable farming and even a runway.
The event from 10am to 4pm will include tours of the dairy to show how the ice cream is made, as well as a tour demonstrating the crops the farm grows. There are tractor rides around our new nature trail and Birds of Prey flight demonstrations. The Ice Cream Parlour will be open selling food and there will be a Produced in Kent food market.
Parking and entry to the farm is free!
