National Trust in Kent celebrates with events at Knole, Ightam Mote, Scotney Castle and Emmetts Garden

Escape the crowds and enjoy some time and space in the great outdoors in December.

Decked out for the festive season and with a number of special events, trails and activities, the National Trust is urging families looking to step away from the chaos of Christmas and spend some time at one of its properties in the county.

We've picked some of the best family-friendly events taking place into the New Year...

Knole, Sevenoaks

Until January 3 (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) take on the Christmas deer trail. Follow the trail, find the Knole deer and help Santa deliver his presents in time. The trail will take you on a walk through the courtyards and park grounds and you must remember to claim your prize at the end. The trail, which costs £5 each, is available between 11am and 3pm and is suitable for children aged 10 and under.

Emmetts Garden, Ide Hill

The Boise family have misplaced their presents, can you help them to find them around the garden? Pick up a trail sheet, costing £1 each, from the visitor centre and start your festive adventure. The trail, running until January 3 excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, is aimed at children 11 and under and is available between 10am and 4pm.

Scotney Castle, Lamberhurst

A woodland wonderland comes alive at Scotney Castle with a family Christmas trail among the natural sculptures around the garden. You can also make decorations to take home and visit the tree at the castle to make a special wish. The trail, available between 10am and 4pm, until January 4 (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) is £2 each and normal admission charges apply.
