With Roald Dahl’s Matilda having recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, special editions of the book featuring new drawings depicting Matilda in her thirties are now available.
The popular Roald Dahl book tells the story of Matilda - a young and petite girl with a love for books who strikes a close relationship with her teacher and uses her extraordinary brain power to outwit bullies.
Matilda has sold 17 million books since it was first published while eight million people have seen the award-winning Matilda the Musical.
The novel also inspired a 1996 film that was directed by and featured Danny DeVito.
Two new editions of the book (world traveller and astrophysicist) were released this week with further new covers showing what Matilda would look like today to also soon be released.
The eight designs were made by illustrator Sir Quentin Blake who worked with Roald Dahl on a number of his books in the past.
During the three-months leading up to the anniversary, eBay stated that it began selling nearly three ‘Matilda’ related items every hour.
In fact, Matilda emerged as the buyer’s first choice in its Roald Dahl ranking with Willy Wonka and the BFG finishing second and third respectively despite those film adaptations enjoying more success on the big screen.
Items related to Fantastic Mr Fox came in fourth while Oompa-Loompa items finished fifth.
Some of the other hot sellers in the Matilda catalogue have included the Matilda headband and costume.
