A polo for a pound!

That's the offer from discount store Poundland, which has launched its own back to school uniform package for the first time.

While having always been popular with families on the lookout for pens and stationary, Poundland is going one step further this year and with the help of its clothing retailer Pep&Co is enabling families to snap up their school uniform in store too.

The kids will be back to school soon but where to shop for their uniforms?

And while not everything costs £1 like its school polo t-shirts, grey and black skirts and trousers can be bought for £3.

Poundland school jumpers, which come in a variety of traditional colours including red and navy, can be snapped up for just £2.

It means a basic boys or girls school uniform, including a polo t-shirt, skirt or trousers and one school jumper, can be bought for £6.

And despite its low price, Poundland says its uniform is made to last - and offers a 101 day guarantee with its Pep&Co school clothing pieces.

The competition for families' back to school cash is always hotly contested at this time of year and Poundland joins a number of high street shops, discount retailers and supermarkets competing for custom from parents keen to kit their kids out for the new school year without breaking the bank:

George at Asda also offers a guarantee on its school uniform for 100 days - where a two-pack of polo tshirts starts at £2.50 and sweatshirts £2.

Aldi says it can do a full girls school uniform or full boys school uniform for £5, which includes a two-pack of polo tshirts, a skirt or pair of trousers and one school jumper.

While Lidl says it is 50p cheaper - at just £4.50 for a school uniform bundle.

Sainsburys, which says its school shop is recommended by online parenting forum Netmums following a poll, sells a two-pack of trousers together with the much-needed reinforced knees for £7 while its polo t-shirts begin at £3.50 for three shirts.

And Morrisons is selling girls pinafore dresses for just £5 and gingham summer dresses should the fine weather hold for only £4.
