Teynham parents ‘forever grateful’ after emergency services deliver baby girl in Upper St Anne’s Road in Faversham
The parents of a baby born on the roadside have thanked the ambulance crew that came to their aid.
Lisa, from Teynham, near Sittingbourne, was discharged to rest at home after visiting the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford on January 14.
But, soon after arriving back, her waters broke.
She and her husband, Ant, set off for the hospital, but just minutes into the journey it became clear they would not make it in time.
The couple pulled over on Upper Saint Anne’s Road in Faversham and called 999 at 4.30pm.
Ant spoke to emergency medical advisor Charlotte Davis, who instructed the couple to keep calm and wait for the ambulance.
Paramedics Kenneth Martin and Craig Stoneman, trainee associate ambulance practitioner Samuel Burnard, advanced paramedic practitioner Robert Truzzi-Franconi and emergency care support worker Peter Neal were all sent to the scene.
Only moments after getting Lisa into the ambulance, baby Imogen arrived safely into the world in good health.
The mum-of-two said: “We will be forever grateful to them and I’m just so glad they all got to us when they did.
“It was so amazing from start to finish.”
The newborn and her mother were taken to the QEQM hospital in Margate to be checked over before returning home.
At just five weeks old, Imogen was able to reunite with the team, alongside her parents and their eldest son Vincent, at SECAmb’s Medway Make Ready Centre, where they enjoyed a cuddle with the new baby girl.
Call handler Ms Davis said: “I remember the call like it was yesterday.
“Lisa was amazing and getting to be a part of bringing baby Imogen into the world was truly special.”
Paramedic Mr Martin added: “I feel privileged to have played a part in bringing Imogen into the world safe and healthy.
“It was amazing to be able to reunite with them and hear about how they are getting on.”
