Children's theatre in Kent
The county is spoilt for choice when it comes to theatre venues, with excellent spaces in all corners of the county.
My Kent Family picked some of its favourite theatres and performance spaces for family and children’s productions.
CANTERBURY
Marlowe Theatre,
It’s played host to Peppa Pig’s muddy puddles, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom not to mention all manner of fairytale lands for its hugely successful Christmas pantomimes. And with a busy programme of community productions to boot, The Marlowe is a favourite venue with Kent families.
The Gulbenkian Theatre
Based on the University of Kent campus, the small theatre is an ideal space in which to introduce children to live productions. You are guaranteed a good seat not too far from the stage which helps little people get the most from their visit.
Penguin, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and We’re Going on A Bear Hunt are just some of the shows to have graced its stage in the last year.
GRAVESHAM & DARTFORD
The Woodville Halls, Gravesend
North Kent families have been coming to the Woodville Halls for decades for its great mix of family friendly productions. Basil Brush, Peppa Pig and Chris and Pui from Cbeebies favourite Show Me Show Me, are just some of those on the bill.
And with a cinema space to boot, there is likely to always be something to keep youngsters entertained.
The Orchard Theatre, Dartford
Mister Maker, Gangsta Granny and Room on a Broom are just some of the names to appear in Orchard Theatre listings.
The venue has a fantastic range of children and family shows for young people of all ages, which are bringing favourite books, films and television programmes to life on stage.

The Brook Theatre, Chatham
From The Owl That Was Afraid of the Dark to Adventures of Narnia, The Brook Theatre has a regular programme of family events and children’s shows.
The Central Theatre, Chatham
Thousands flock to the Central Theatre every winter for its excellent pantomime but its programme of events has shows for families throughout the year.
MAIDSTONE
From performing arts holiday workshops to live theatre and musicals, The Hazlitt offers a good choice for families on the lookout for entertainment.
THANET
Theatre Royal, Margate
At least once a month will you find something at Margate’s Theatre Royal that is suitable for Kent families. From Julia Donaldson’s The Scarecrow’s Wedding to the story of the Boy That Never Grew Up, there is always a live and captivating performance to be seen.
